Measuring IgG level is an invaluable component of any neonatal foal exam for both sick and outwardly healthy foals. If a foal has not absorbed enough IgG from colostrum in the first hours of life, risk for serious infection will be high. Point-of-care measurement of IgG allows appropriate oral and/or intravenous therapy to be instituted in a timely manner, providing antibodies to help the foal fight off infections.
